FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cleaning / Maintenance

Q: What kind of daily maintenance do you recommend?
A: We recommend daily maintenance including spot removal and vacuum cleaning. Select an efficient vacuum cleaner that removes soil and offers a high efficiency filtration system. Less efficient vacuums allow soil to pass throughout the vacuum bag and become airborne. These airborne soils then settle on other surfaces. Carpet should be vacuumed a minimum of twice weekly. Traffic lanes and areas near exterior doors should be vacuumed daily. These areas are where the bulk of household soil is trapped. Failure to vacuum these areas regularly may lead to permanent carpet damage.

Q: How frequently should I have my carpet professionally cleaned?
A: All carpet should be cleaned a minimum of every twelve to eighteen months. S&S Mills recommends professional truck mounted steam cleaning.

Q: What are some of the different spot removal techniques?
A: Some basic guidelines for spot removal are: 1) Vacuum any dry spills to remove as much of the substance as possible. 2) Blot a liquid stain with a dry cloth paper towel to absorb as much as possible. 3) Detergent Solutions are recommended for common spills and stains, such as food stains, ink, cola, coffee, candy, bleach, beer, animal stains, and hair spray 4)Vinegar Solutions are recommended for alkaline spills such as calcium chloride, ammonia, iron, white glue, jute stains, rust, and oven cleaner. 5) Ammonia Solutions are recommended for stains such as blood, battery acid, soy sauce, and urine. Please contact us if you have any questions about specific spots. We will be glad to help.

Q: What type of Preventative Maintenance do you recommend?
A: We recommend any type of maintenance which attempts to reduce the amount of soil brought into a home, such as door mats and runners in high-traffic areas.
